I liked this book very much for it's clarity and wisdom bringing together Sylvia's experience and observations over decades as well as key messages from the greatest horsemen in history.
This is a book containing many explanatory photographs which I find particularly helpful for visualization purposes and self directed learning and I believe this book has application to all equine disciplines.
I find Sylvia's writing style to be down to earth and inspirational.
This book exceeded my expectations and I would recommend it to all who are dedicated to improving their equitation skills and knowledge
I bought this book after reading an extract in Horse and Rider. I had never even heard of Sylvia Loch. It is the most clearly written, well articulated book I have read in a long time. It is invaluable in understanding the fine details of the aids, their affect on the horse and on you as the rider.
It is also a great book to refer to time and time again. In fact the more you read it the more things just seem to make sense. Sylvia explains things in simple terms and makes it a great read for any level of rider.
I enjoyed this book as it is a straightforward discussion of how to use the aids such as shifting weight around for more subtle almost invisible means of steering your horse. The first half will be relevant to all riders and the second half to riders wishing to use more advanced dressage. I bought the kindle edition and the layout of text around the pictures was sometimes a bit strange or awkward to follow.
This book is everything I expected from Sylvia and didn't disappoint. Its written really well and very easy to understand, this book will be my reference for my horses training for years to come. Excellent
Having been on the quest to improve my riding for the past 20 years i found Sylvia a long time ago and was hooked, look no further than this book to learn how to put theory in to practice, clearly written, easy to understand and gives rationale behind why we do things, an absolute gem of a book
This book is for anyone who wants to be the best rider they possible can be but I didn't find it an easy read and I had to adopt a method of studying where I read it through once and then read it through again made notes and then went back again read a section over and over again until I understood and then applied it to my riding. It is quite technical and could make you feel that achieving high standard of riding is beyond you but take it in small bites and apply it to your every day practical riding whether hacking or schooling and you will begin to see results.
Have not finished reading this yet but it is written so clearly and simply you can really understand what Sylvia is trying to get across about the aids and the positioning of your body so that you make it easier for the horse to understand what you are asking, can't wait to start putting it into practice.
My book came very quickly so i was able to take it on holiday with me and enjoy reading it, Excellent book have read it over and over, Its now become my favourite book, easy to understand and full of sound information that really does work wouldn't be without it
