An excellent collection of stories. The BBC chose this shortlist very well. It's an eclectic mix of styles and topics, bringing in everything from love to obsession to science and road trips. M.J. Hyland's heartbreaking and profound 'Rag Love', set on a docked cruise liner, is the standout story - it's got a wonderful evocation of place (Sydney in the 1950s) and in the eager-to-please Jim and permanently-wanting Trudy two memorable central characters. I heartily recommend this collection.

I listened to all five of these stories on the BBC and I was so impressed. And what a fascinating and gripping range of subject-matter. Heart surgeons, cruise-liners, car accidents, an astronaut....These writers know what they're doing. This is bound to be a great collection. I can't wait to read the stories, to see them in print. It's impossible to pick a winner, but I think it might be one of the two PhD students on the list. Super stories, from five super writers!
