I cannot recommend this book enough if you would like to know more about stretching for exercise or rehabilitation.
This book provides details on the types of stretching and how they should be used, and the make up and actions of muscles at the beginning of the book. Then the book is broken down into to exercises for the different parts of the body. Each individual exercise has at least one, but sometimes a number of really clear diagrams showing the stretch and the muscles being used. Then their are sections on the technique that should be used for the stretch, sports that would benefit from the stretch, sports injuries where the stretch may be useful, additional information for performing the stretch correctly, and details of other stretches that would complement the stretch.
This is one of the best books I have found on stretching exercises, and I use it all the time for reference for myself and for teaching points for the sports participants I coach.

I was looking for a book which would help me in my job as a massage therapist, predominately dealing with people with sports injuries. This is a great book with very easy to follow diagrams and explanations for particular muscle groups and a great section on specific stretches for sports activities. A brilliant book for those who, like me, doesn't like to be bombarded with text and prefers visual explanations to exercises.

I bought this book after reading numerous reviews on Amazon and I'm very pleased with it. Splendidly illustrated and very easy to follow, it will add many new stretches to my fitness regime. The first part of the book has comprehensive and very helpful advice on how to stretch properly. I've already adjusted my approach on the basis of this and found that the stretches are more satisfying and more effective. Many years ago I injured my spine and stretching, mobility and strengthening exercises have been a daily norm for ever since. I know how important stretching is for recovery and continued flexibility; this book has extended my knowledge.

This is an excellent book and worthy of 5 stars for the right person. And according to the books own introduction it is written for 'athletes and fitness professionals'. It is a pity that this information is not given in the product details, and downright strange that a number of reviews say it's good for the beginner or 'the average person'. My 3 stars are based on the lack of really clear info prior to buying the book.

This book offers over a hundred stretches with lots of technical detail and excellent illustrations. It also offers stretching routines for sports injuries and specific sports. However, what's missing is any sort of guidance for the person who wishes to add a more general flexibility routine to their activities. If it had that then it would be perfect for what I want - brilliant stretches for any injuries I might receive, plus a range of general stretching routines to use everyday.

In summary - I think this is an brilliant book, providing you are the athlete or sports professional it was specifically written for, or if you want the best stretches for any current and future injuries and sports. But don't buy it if you just want a great guide to general stretching and flexibility.

This is a really helpful and well written book. Diagrams are in colour and easy to follow, its made up of quick one or two paragraph descriptions (after the legnthy introduction that is!) which make it ideal for those that prefer or need to get fast results or basic answers to questions.

I would advise this to anyone who is new or intermediate with exercising or stretching. It does what it says on the tin and very well, taught me new things! If your a world famous athelete or a physiology student its going to be wasted on you but for the rest of us normal people its well worth a read though may be too heavy to carry to and from the gym every day which would be my main gripe: not as portible as it could be.

Only things (aside from the portability issue) I'd raise would be that it could be perhaps more in depth as it is quite a general book: it deals with the entire body not just one section. It does have some depth but it could have more.

Very good for sportspeople and 'lay' users. Clear concise illustrations, very useful as an adjunct to exercises given to me by Physiotherapist.

This for me is the best place to start when understanding stretching and its role in sports training. The book contains a wealth of information about the make-up of muscles and how stretching improves flexibility and helps prevent injury. However the main part of the book is the 128 stretches, which are grouped into different areas and each stretch has details about the technique, the muscles being stretched, common mistakes and injuries that the stretch can help with. I really rate this book but for martial arts I would recommend also owning 'Ultimate Flexibility: A Complete Guide to Stretching for Martial Arts' by Sang H Kim.

This is the best stretching guide I have seen! I'm a medical student so I found it the perfect balance between science and normal speak - though don't be put off by the fact it has science in it, it is very simply but very accurate, not like a lot of the nonsense I have seen. It is a simple book explaining when each different type of stretching is most appropriate and why, and suggests some good stretches for common injuries and warm ups/cool downs for common sports. The stretches themselves are illustrated beautifully so you can see exactly what you are meant to be doing and which muscles you should be stretching/feeling and they are arranged in a very logical regional manner - i.e. all the arms ones then upper body then core/belly/hips then upper legs -quads, upper legs - hamstrings, lower legs -shins, ankles etc.

All in all one of the best books I've ever purchased, it's made the round of my family who have all agreed with me as well (non medics but sportsy).

this is a book with streching in it & it name all muscles what are been streched in the paticulare action what is been carryed out . Verry good condition & nice layout very good for people whom are in to anatomy & physiolagy not for the beginner , could be used for therapist whom are studying physio,, sports therapist , massage therapist & many more . the pictures can be used to show clients why pain or less range of movement is traverling up or down because pictures show the direction of fibers & they can see it plain good price to & quick delivery

GREAT BOOK!!! This book adds the dynamic of internal self awareness into your fitness routine, good guide for placement of muscles. Pencil drawings with colour showing muscles.
I have done relaxation for years with some awareness of muscle shape, size and placement - but this book as taken my awareness to a quicker accurate placement by the given visual peg. I found it was also a quicker way of educating your self on anatomy.
The postures are shown in some kind of order ie first the neck area then the shoulders, arms, torso, hip, legs and feet; lending itself to illustrate a perfect planned all round body work out. I actually do a workout, it takes me 45 minutes, great start to the day!
Personally i wish a DVD had been included, with timed routine and hold of stretch.
And I think its great for people who can't do Yoga or they want something pre yoga beginners level exercises. Or a light stretch without yogic knots. The book gives recommendations on stretches for different sports.
