I'm a PT. This book is for kids, not for professionals. Nothing serious... Even the anatomy of psoas is not in depth... Loss of time for people who are in the science.

This review is from: The Vital Psoas Muscle: Connecting Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Well-Being (Paperback)
This book must be the condensed knowledge of many years study and observation of athletes and dancers. Beautifully illustrated showing the position of the muscle during various 'stretches' with explanations of what you are doing each time. Often the psoas is over-stretched and needs to be given the opportunity to contract yet be in a relaxed state. And is almost unavoidably involved in just about any back pain / stiffness condition.
Her explanation of the linkage between the Psoas and the diaphragm and the energetics of that are revealing of so much in exercise and why learning to breathe to relax is so important.
She gives a 10 minute workout for the Psoas via her website move to live I think it is called. She has also written another muscle book and if that is anything of the quality of this one it would be another must buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Vital Psoas Muscle, 29 Jun 2014

This review is from: The Vital Psoas Muscle: Connecting Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Well-Being (Paperback)
What is immediately apparent is the detail given to the anatomical illustrations as well as to the different poses. There are three sections: 1. The Anatomical Prelude detailing how the psoas is attached to the skeleton; some exercises to maintain a healthy psoas; causes of lower back pain and some exercises for relief; a section on the psoas and Pilates with a large selection of more exercises. 2. The Psoas and Emotions which under Somatic Memory lists 12 emotional disorders, and then goes on to the Gut/Brain Connection showing a guide to the nervous system, followed by Nurturing the Psoas for Emotional Release which comprises 3 techniques; When the Psoas Strikes Back includes some healing practices, and case studies - male and female, followed by lower spine problems. 3. The Psoas and Spirituality - Energetic Anatomy, which focusses on the lower three chakras after a brief description of the 7 chakra centres in the body. The poses and exercises are based on yoga, and the three, lower chakra, exercise sections are followed by pointers: hints on one's attitude to life, what to eat; bonus poses, a review and a brief description of the benefits of postures. The Appendix entitled the Hip Flexion Society allows you to identify how sedentary your life is and offers some practical, common-sense hints e.g. sit less and move more! The book concludes with a list of mechanical problems and some metabolic problems, with a short section on the effects of a sedentary lifestyle for men and women, the shortening of the lifespan. Oh dear, I have butt spread from prolonged sitting.... All in all this book shows how to improve our levels of physical, emotional and spiritual energies. Well worth purchasing.
