This book is a little gem: why? There are snippets here and there in other books about Planetary Magick but you have to work out the rest of it yourself, as the infomrationis either too basic or incomplete. Now this book, ok, it may look a slim book, ut within its pages is everything you need, plus more, that you wanted to know about working with the Planets.

The authors describe the seven Classical Planets, mainly as they were the planets most referred to and of course, our days of the week are named after them; but the book also has a section on the 3 outer planets, which tend to get ignored. This section includes magickal squares and other relevant information (sure, it would have been nice for them to have had the full treatment the other planets get!)

In brief, you have:

descriptions of the Planetary Energies
descriptions of the the Planetary Deities
descriptions of the Olympian spirits AND how to work with them
Planetary Hours and Days
and the list goes on.....

If you want to work magick with the help of the Planets, then this is your book.

I had the impression that I had already written a review for this book but as it appears I did not... Well, for a star-gazing conjuring mortal immortal I personally found this book to be a jewel. Combining personal insight, scholarly references and practical applications this book will initiate the reader and practioner, regardless of how advanced they are, on a journey through the planetary realms flirting with ancient invocations, Hermetic Axioms, Renaissance Magia, the Grimoires, Archangels, Olympic Spirits, rites invoking the primordial epoches yet being applicable to the needs and preferences of contemporary Magoi, unbiased lists of correspondences, and 'hands on' meditations. Written in a very attractive and alluring fashion, I recommend this to all who seek to invoke the axiom of "I am a child of Earth and of Starry Heaven; But my race is of Heaven!"

As usual, David and Sorita has done a great job writing a book. I have got almost all of their books and they never dissapoint me. It is very well structured and easy to understand. It is a good book for both beginners and experienced. I love it. Well done!

'Practical Planetary Magick: Working the Magick of the Classical Planets in the Western Esoteric Tradition,' is a thin paperback of around 220 pages, which as the title suggests, attempts to present a system of planetary magic in the tradition of Western Esotericism.

The main problem with this book is it omits traditional astronomy / astrology, for example where the planets sit in the zodiacal houses with regards to timing ritual magic. This is fundamentally important when practicing planetary magic, instead it advises just following the planetary days / hours. In addition to this, the book has elements that are very similar, bordering on self-plagarism, with regards to the other two books by the author's 'Practical Elemental Magick' and 'Practical Qabbalistic Magick.' It would have been better to combine all three books into a single text and cut out the repetitive bits. I really dislike the pyramid exercises, which are more New Age visualization exercises rather than traditional Western Esotericism.

On the plus side, it contains a number of very useful correspondence tables and details about the planets. Overall it is okay, which is why it was awarded three stars. It is just a shame they payed no attention to real, traditional planetary magic with instructions based on planetary positions which could have made this a fantastic book.
