Helped me keep things civil,

This is an excellent guide, providing your circumstances are not too complicated. It was easy to use, it would have got 5* if it had diferentiated between Scottish and English/Welsh law in a clearer fashion - I kept finding myself following bits that I later found out were for the Scottish readers. However a highlighter pen soon sorted this out! This has managed to keep things civil - in fact almost 'nice' - between myself and my (ex)husband, and I haven't noticed any problems with our two children either. Keeping solicitors out of it for as long as possible does make it better (and cheaper!), although I found I needed some legal help at the end when it came to changing the deeds to the house, etc.

Ideal for someone like me, who knows absolutely nothing about separation, divorce but suddenly find myself right in it.All the forms are there One key point however, not mentioned. What really matters is the crunch- what happens when the husband and wife disagree about how to split everything up Answer, mediation is the best way to resolve a dispute, but it will still cost. It's a lot cheaper than going to a solicitor, but still demands a chunk of cash. Personal advice, when your spouse says, I won't need to go to a solicitor, it means they will but won't tell you. So, strongly recommend being honest and upfront for both of you from the start. Only use a solicitor for legal confirmation that what you have aged between you is robust, that way no-one gets screwed over. Ideally, you should agree the future income and expenditure between yourselves, working out what comes in and goes out. Key point here, this calculation is for the future, not right now. You must estimate new world costs, so how much will each of you need to live on a day to day basis nice you live apart. This pack though is very good |
