I was looking for a bit of info on beekeeping for the sake of the bees .I found it easy to read and it had a lot of good advice on how to take up beekeeping for the sake of bees and not just for the honey etc.Its a must for the eco bee keeper.

To many of the latest generation of beekeepers, who are more interested in the wellbeing of their honey bees than maximising honey production, a bee-friendly, sustainable approach to bee husbandry is an exciting prospect. The author sets out an updated version of the approach devised by Abbe Emilie Warre (1867-1951)which he seeks to justify ethically, scientifically and practically. Whilst the science quoted is sound, it appears selective. Since Warre's death the varroa mite has appeared requiring enormous changes in approaches to disease management and material modifications to hive design. Whilst the author shows how these modifications can be incorporated into a Warre hive, the whole approach is unconvincing. The book provides an interesting read for experienced beekeepers and has intrigued me sufficiently to give it a go next season. However, new beekeepers should read conventional books as well before embarking down this route.

it is a bit of a political statment by the auther on how to keep honey bees as nature intented but his throughts could put keepers new to the world of bee keeping off keeping bees by both systems of managment side by side in the aperia as i am doing. It is a very well texted book that the auther feels very devoted to his way of keeping his bees.
