Firstly, this book is primarily aimed at chalk stream fishing, which isnt my thing at all so this book isnt aimed at me.
Saying that I was hugely disappointing with it. The reviews were excellent so I was hoping for some new ideas and theories, but its all been done before many many times.
There is an interesting section on floating leader visibility from a trouts point of view, but thats about all I took from the book. Fly patterns have been done before, casting downstream dry's etc etc. Fly patterns have been done many times also. Main thrust of the book is dry fly fishing, with a little written about nymphs, tho the author is clearly not as comfortable when talking sub surface flies.
As another reviewer pointed out, perhaps the author should have taken his own advise and written a book outside the box, outside his comfort zone, showing tactics for all rivers and all tactics... not just those he has a safe, comfortable knowledge of.
If you enjoy dry fly chalkstream fishing then its worth a look. Otherwise its not really of interest.
