Excellent - everything I wanted to know
Don't let the size of the book put you off - yes it looks like a weighty tome, but it's crammed full of useful information. Read in tandem with something else
If you want a purely factual, clinical, doctor-orientated view of pregnancy then this is the book for you. If you want a more human perspective, look elsewhere.
This is not a book I would give to a first-time mother on its own. Teamed with, for example, something by Yehudi Gordon, it would be more balanced.

Excellent - everything I wanted to know, 7 Jun 2006
Don't let the size of the book put you off - yes it looks like a weighty tome, but it's crammed full of useful information. If, like me, you wanted to know absolutely everything that can happen, this book is worth buying. It's not funny, there are no characterisations or diaries, but it is a good companion - even from before you conceive. I especially like the week by week development of the foetus - lots of books miss great chunks of this, but this covers it all and has photos etc too. I've kept referring to it most nights when I'm in bed! It doen't patronise - which as a health professional, I was grateful for -but it doesn't assume you know loads either, which was reassuring. As with any pregnancy book, reading too far ahead can scare you, so be careful. It does go into a lot of complications and problems - but in my opinion, forewarned is forearmed. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to know a lot about what's going on inside them during pregnancy - and to those who want to get up to speed before conception. I wouldn't be without it.

The name says it all, 23 Jun 2004
I bought this book as soon as I found out I was pregnant and thoroughly enjoyed looking at the week by week pictures and descriptions of my baby's growth and mine too. It really did become my pregnancy bible and my husband and I both read it. This book seems to cover everything from conception through to caring for a newborn, including pregnancy care/problems, labour, what to buy, exercise - you name it, you will find it in here. Very informative book for those who want to know as much as possible about their pregnancy.

Does Exactly What it Says on the Cover!!, 28 Oct 2004
By A Customer
This book really is a Bible. Obviously as I'm planning to start a family I needed to buy 17 books that all say the same thing, which luckily meant I was bound to get one that was good!! This one is more than good, I'd say it was great, it's easy to read and broken down into informative and well researched chapters. I've found some of the books to be a little too overwhelming and sometimes quite dated (Birth & Beyond - Dr. Yehudi Gordon) although very often their not that old. Some books also are very 'alternative therapies' and yoga based which is great to be aware of but if I can't get my feet behind my head now, there's no way I'm gonna be able to do it during pregnancy! This book makes you aware of such therapies and points out the positives and negatives without trying to sway you. Some books I've found can be quite frightening and negative but this one definately has a positive angle as well as informing you of the potential dangers. Complicated medical information is explained thoroughly using diagrams and examples without ever being patronising. I'd say this book would be useful to all those planning or preparing for a baby, especially first time mothers. Two good good books alongside I'd recommend would be 'The Rough Guide to Pregnancy' - Kaz Cooke, for a great laugh and some good information and 'The Blokes Guide to Pregnancy' - Jon Smith, they say you shouldn't forget your other children when planning for a baby so I thought it best to get my husband a book so he didn't feel left out!! He says it's great and read half of it in the first two days.

Every pregnant woman should have one., 5 Jan 2007
The best book of its kind that we found. It gave us useful and reassuring information about all the practicalities and technicalities as we experienced them (or as we worried about experiencing them). The only thing it doesn't provide is a personal insight into what pregnancy actually feels like, but there are other books for that. To complement Anne Deans' factual manual, I'd recommend Kaz Cooke's diary in The Rough Guide To Pregnancy. And for men, Andrew Cullen's witty From Here To Paternity (The Diary of a Pregnant Man) was my husband's favourite; it's frank and funny, a book that women can enjoy too. In retrospect, these three books would've been enough and we needn't have bothered reading the other fifteen.

Excellent guide for each and every stage of pregnancy, 14 Jan 2006
This book is an ideal book for anyone planning for a baby. It explains each and every stage of pregnancy in a very elaborate and practical manner. We found this book extremely helpful and it lives upto its name of being the pregnancy bible.

Truly my pregnancy bible, 9 Dec 2005
By A Customer
Having previously suffered an early miscarriage, I was very nervous for the first few months of this pregnancy. An issue not helped by a personality clash with my midwife. This book has been brilliant at answering some questions I didn't feel able to ask as well as giving advice and information. I am so, so glad that I bought this book, it was a great investment.

This is the one you need., 21 Nov 2005
When I was first pregnant we went into a high street bookshop and looked through the current crop of pregnancy books---then came home and ordered this one on-line. We chose it because it had an expert in each field, and because it just felt right. During my pregnancy we read it all of the time and it always came up with the answer to my latest concern. It was not the only book we bought but in the end became the only one we used. It became my reassuring friend, and actually is the only book you need. (but I bet you buy others too)

The Pregnancy Bible, 25 Jun 2004
When I found out I was pregnant I went looking for an informative, up-to-date pregnancy book and I find that The Pregnancy Bible is fantastic. It seems to have answers to every possible question and is loaded with helpful information on all topics relating to pregnancy with the possible exception of medications one should avoid. As it was written by doctors and midwives I found the information to be thoroughly reliable. I highly recommend it also for the wonderful photography.

Best book ever, 27 Mar 2007
I bought this book very early on in my pregnancy, my baby girl is now just over 2 months old. The book helped me throughout my entire pregnancy, any query I had this book answered for me. It takes you straight from the beginning of the pregnancy, right upto bringing the baby home, bonding, bathing, recovering (whether you had a natural birth or a C-section) and beyond. It has a section for the Dad as well, it's a complete A-Z book, it's the only one you will ever need! It's the only one that I actually found useful!
