This is a beautiful little book with a lot of integrity. Printed on recycled paper and written in accessible language, it gives a brief but interesting tour of simple shelters from around the world. The drawings are intricate but simple to understand and probably detailed enough to have a go at building one of the shelters yourself. The narrative is chatty and informative, and it feels like you're flicking through an enthusiast's sketchbook.

This would be a lovely pocket-sized gift or source of inspiration for anyone with an interest in sustainability, construction, architecture, design or simple living... or for the person who dreams of building a garden hideaway. A little gem.

Bought this as I work with children outside and thought there may be a few shelters we could try to build. Well, there are more than a few and I can't wait to try them; it gives good instructions as well as the history behind them.

I dithered about buying this book as it did not have the "look inside" feature but finally took a chance on the strength of the one review. I am not disappointed. It is a lovely little book. Excellent sketches and text. Clearly created with love.

This book reviews named typologies eg Tipis, Yurts etc, with a brief description of each typology and annotated drawings on the facing pages.
The drawings have been printed to such a small scale that I cannot read their detail ( I have normal eyesight for a middle aged person). Similarly the annotations are so small that I cannot read them. It is clear that a huge amount of work has been put into this small book. So I'm disappointed not to be able to read it. I suppose I could invest in a magnifying glass. But the question remains; having put together such an interesting study, did the author shy away from really sharing his project, or was he simply let down by the printers?

4 Stars for content
0 Stars for readability.

Definately an interesting little book, but the font size is just too small on many of the pages making it difficult to read. The appendix showing details of selected domes includes data on sizes, sadly once again this detail is virtually unreadable due to the very small font sizes. Would have been so much more interesting in an A5 sized book, author and printer please take note.

This is an exquisite little book! The drawings are outstanding, and consistent. A primer on simple construction in a very small package. I just ordered 3 more copies. It's made me check out (and order) other books by Wooden Books, Ltd., a wonderful collection.

this book was full of suprises, very enjoyable, my only disapointmentwas some of the text, if you have text next to drawings I expect them to be clear, some of the text on the lillustrated pages were too small. still a book being carried around with me

Great content, poorly produced. A waste of time, unless you have 20/20 vision or a strong magnifying glass.
This beautifully produced book is a prime example of form over function. The drawing text is clearly not designed for a pocket format, especially one printed in pale brown on cream paper. If you are young, with 20/20 vision, as the production team clearly are, you should be fine.

It's a real shame that a book with such excellent content should be hamstrung in the rush to be different. It's a book - which should be designed for reading. If you meet the primary function, then feel free to play with the secondary one - to look pretty. It is, unfortunately, about as much use as a car with square wheels!

This is a lovely little book with some excellent shelter designs each accompanied with sketches. The only issue with this book is that it is very small and so the drawings are also too small to see them in great detail.
