Fighter Pilot, by Paul Richey, is simply such an excellent read. Not just for the action but for the contempory tales of life in France during the 'phoney war'. This book is a poor sequel. Richey wrote about a quarter of it and his writing is full of charecter as before but the rest is a rather dull, filled-un narrative that is unrepresentative of his style and not written by his hand. I'd say buy it to read what he wrote but skip over the rest. It is a pity that he died before finishing the manuscript, otherwise it would have been another classic.

I clearly did not read the blurb carefully enough because I was anticipating another book written by Paul Richey, having really enjoyed his book "Fighter Pilot". The book I bought précised "Fighter Pilot" and more than half the rest of the book was written by someone else. Only four chapters had been written by Paul Richey together with some very interesting internal memos and letters home. So overall I was rather disappointed.

This well written follow up to "Fighter Pilot" presents a candid picture of one man's wartime experience. Very down to earth and factual account of Paul Richey's life in the RAF.

While I appreciate the sentiment of the sequel's author (Paul Richey did not write this book) and his admiration for Paul Richey, this book lacks the personality and realism of the first book. This book reads more like an obituary or a speech at a funeral with some disassociated third party recounting events they only heard about third hand.

I truly enjoy first-hand accounts, particularly from pilots. I've even read through some weak biographies of great fighter pilots(Thach Weave comes to mind), unfortunately, I couldn't bring myself to finish this book.
