4.0 out of 5 stars Young Guns: Inside the Violent World of Britain's Street Gangs
good read. interesting subject matter, you become aware of a sub culture within our society that streches accross race and relious boundaries and becomes an accepted and distorted way of life

1.0 out of 5 stars Matt
This is a very poor book which is badly written. It seems that the author has raided the local media and pieced together stories from different area's to make a book. The chapter on the City I live in is very scant with detail and misses out a lot of what has actually occurred in this area. Don't buy this book it's rubbish. Save yourself some money for something that's...

This book was a complete waste of money. It's full of information that i could have easily found by using Google and reading a few newspaper articles.

On top of that, there is loads of incorrect information.

As mentioned in other reviews, it is basically just a few little stories and articles put together to create a book, very disappointing.

4.0 out of 5 stars decent and informed, 15 April 2013

I've ready similiar books to this mainly surrounding the gang culture in Manchester, this was quite revealing in that the same gangs and hoods also seem to be in the more rural towns and small cities like Huddersfield.
A decent read a bit patchy in places and not really a book about certain people or characters. More and informed guide to gangs by their postcode and area.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, 27 Nov 2010
This review is from: Young Guns (Paperback)
A bit grim in places but overall a good read. I wasn't really aware that this kind of gang existed outside of London but the range of different locations covered by the author is impressive. It's interesting how the media usually portray gun crime as something that only effects the black community but here, gangs are looked at in mostly white areas of Preston, Bradford, Edinburgh, etc. and exactly the same things seem to be going on. Definitely a book that I'd recommend to anybody with an interest in factual crime books.

5.0 out of 5 stars good book, 12 Dec 2010
This review is from: Young Guns (Paperback)
a good mix of personal experience and commentary on events that have been in the media. the author uses his own research to comment on publicised crimes and he is able to add an additional insight into them. the chapter about lancaster is particularly interesting as he is able to trace the subjects offending from petty crimes during his early teens to serious offences in adult life, which gives a good insight into how a teenage boy develops into a violent criminal
