This book saved my life. I was panicking about Social Work Theory until one of my classmates recommended this book. It's a basic guide to all the social work theories and gives you pointers in the right direction if you want to do some more research. Perfect! Should be a coursebook for all social work courses.

I've just completed a Masters in Social Work and bought this book a year ago: I'm on track for a good grade and, without a doubt, this has been my most-used book and has helped me with every single assignment! It gives a basic overview of a wide range of theories and models, giving each a clear description and critique. This provided keywords when then helped me to search academic articles/journals if I needed to explore the model/theory in more depth... Thank you!!

I've just finished the first placement of my Social Work MA and this book saved my life, and all of my classmates that bought it thought it was great. It made it much easier to see which theories are applicable and each one is presented in an easy to digest way.
Just don't reference directly from this, my practice educator recommended the book but then asked me to do further reading so i could reference the authors cited in the book. sometimes i did and often i didn't but i got great feedback on my written work.

I bought this as i am currently in my first year of my BA Social Work degree. This book is well written and very easy to understand. It provides a good introduction and explanation for quite a number of theories used to inform and to intervene. You will need to expand on the knowledge provided in this book with further reading to really gain a comprehensive depth of understanding in to the theories introduced.

Nonetheless, i couldn't be more pleased with this book. I have found it invaluable.

I bought this book after a recommendation from university and placement providers. This book is a brilliant and simplistic guide to integrating theory into practice and I have used this on multiple occasions for essays and reflections. A must have for social work students and even though post-qualified. Great price and something you will make the most of in practice!

A really useful book to introduce student social workers to social work theory and how it can be used in practice. Simple and easy to understand with tips from past students and suggested reading lists in each section. Highly recommended - especially for use on placement

The book arrived really fast and I absolutely love it. The clear, simple explanations of the theories within it allowed me to put a theory presentation together in a matter of minutes, my lecturer loving the in-depth knowledge I provided. I'm only a first year student and know this book will be used throughout my degree and when I qualify. Highly recommend it - all my fellow students have purchased this after borrowing my copy! Save yourself endless hours trying to find a theory book - this is perfect for all years and all abilities!

This is a brilliant book for social work students on placement. I used this book for my second and third year placements. It also comes in handy for assignments.
Easy to read and understand. Some theories in their simplest terms (obviously it doesn't have ALL social work theories - what a huge book that would be!!)
Would definitely recommend!

A great book for giving you a brief outline of theories and methods used in social work. Having them all in one place is really helpful and you can just turn to the page and get straight into what you want to know. I am sure I will use this book thoughout my career and will by others published by them.
