5.0 out of 5 stars Unjustly neglected artist
This is an artist who gets barely a mention in most works on the arts and crafts movement yet she produced many fascinating, beautifully crafted, works of art. Perhaps because her work spanned a variety of media from murals, to embroidery, to enamelling she is hard to categorise. She produced objects, and works of art, in the arts and crafts style but with much...

This review is from: Phoebe Anna Traquair: 1852-1936 (Paperback)
Beautifully illustrated with some of Traquair's finest work. An artist of the Arts and Crafts movement in the late 19th Century, Traquair is little known outside Edinburgh where she lived and worked after her marriage to a prominent Edinburgh scientist. This book tells her personal history and goes into some detail about her most prominent work, e.g the beautiful murals in the Song School and Mansfield Church in Edinburgh and her stunning embroideries. If you visit Edinburgh and wish to view some of her work this book will give you an insight into her amazing talent

This review is from: Phoebe Anna Traquair: 1852-1936 (Paperback)
This is an artist who gets barely a mention in most works on the arts and crafts movement yet she produced many fascinating, beautifully crafted, works of art. Perhaps because her work spanned a variety of media from murals, to embroidery, to enamelling she is hard to categorise. She produced objects, and works of art, in the arts and crafts style but with much symbolism and use of shapes and colours which shimmer and move in and out of focus. This book is well illustrated and written and excellent value for money.
