4.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful book
I just bought a cottage with a big garden and not sure exactly how to look after it or even include new plants as I'm not a good gardener; however, this book offers really great tips and also pictures on how you want your garden to look.

I was really disappointed with this book. I bought it in the hope of finding practical inspiration for dealing with my awkwardly-shaped country plot, but instead I found a cursory overview of the history of the cottage garden, some attractive but not particularly striking photographs, and guidance which verges on the banal. Would anyone seriously considering keeping livestock find a two-page spread on poultry-rearing useful? I couldn't find anything in the book that could be described as design advice. Perhaps the book might be helpful for someone trying to give a cottage 'feel' to a suburban plot, but it's pretty pointless if you're looking for anything more hands-on.

Pretty pictures which inspire replication but not enough explanation or information. A case of showing not tellling, but this sort of book needs some detailed telling.
