5.0 out of 5 stars For an unforgettable trip in Paris, be sure to purchase this book..., 27 Mar 2007

This review is from: Paris Hotels (Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay) (Paperback)
The selection of places to stay in Paris in this book is great, very varied as is the usual with the Sawday guides, and all special in their own way. I had the old book and was impressed with the new additions. I stayed in Hotel du Jeu de Paume and can't recommend it enough. The hotel is really lovely, but the area is fantastic. It's on L'lle Saint-Louis, an island in the middle of the Seine. You can have a beer or coffee over looking the back of the Cathedral of Notre Dame, and nowhere near the crowds in front of it. It's what you imagine Paris to be. A great book that won't let you down, a good investment in my opinion...

4.0 out of 5 stars Tempting, enticing......, 2 Feb 2007

This review is from: Paris Hotels (Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay) (Paperback)
This is the second Sawday book I have used (first - Britain - which was brilliant, both hotels lived up to their descriptions), chosen to help us find somewhere special in Paris. It is a beautifully produced book, full of lovely descriptions and photos. Thoughtfully laid out by area, so you don't have to waste time trawling through pages of irrelevant information (mind you, it makes delightful reading even if you do read every page), it is very easy to use. Great maps help you locate the hotels, and there's even an extremely helpful guidebook bit at the back which tells you the stuff that other guidebooks don't eg useful phrases, interesting things to do and see (including walking or cycling around the city off the beaten track - definitely in line with their environmentally friendly philosophy!). Do cross reference hotels with their websites and independent traveller websites for a clearer idea of what to expect. I recommend this series of books as a great starting point for finding that special, and unusual place to stay.
