5.0 out of 5 stars So Close!, 4 Nov. 2011
This review is from: IN SEARCH OF DOUBLE 1912/13 (Paperback)
Pre-war football is often dismissed as something out of the dark ages yet, as Mark and Paul's book makes clear, Sunderland were one of the powerhouse teams of the Edwardian era. Attracting huge crowds and with a reputation as one of the finest sides to ever don the red and white stripes, the Sunderland team of 1912/13 very nearly became the first team to do the league and cup in the 20th century, 59 years before Tottenham Hotspur famously pulled it off.
Mark and Paul's book is a fine epitaph to this bittersweet season just a few years before the outbreak of WWI. Most of the players featured went on to serve their country in that bitter conflict, a few making the ultimate sacrifice - making their acheivements in this hallowed season all the more poignant.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really loved the kindle version of the old players, 14 April 2015
I really loved the kindle version of the old players. I dream of the scores them days best Chelsea 4-0, Liverpool 7-0. Kept going until I had read it. Wished we had them types of layers now. No money but played for the fun of it.
