This review is from: Black Arrow Rocket: A History of a Satellite Launch Vehicle and Its Engines (Paperback)
This is an excellent outline to both the history and technology of the British rocket and satellite launcher program of the 50's and 60's. The book is homage to the Black Arrow satellite launcher but also covers unfulfilled concepts for larger launchers. It contains an interesting chronography and description of British rocket engines as well as many illustrations and pictures. The book also includes a brief (and painstakingly even-handed) analysis of the political mismanagement that beset the whole of the British launcher programme. I expect that you will, like me, come away feeling frustrated and saddened regarding how this brilliant and successful avenue of British technology was consigned to the scrap heap. The book is a small yet well presented item and well worth the money. (A bit like Black Arrow itself really!)

I found this easy to read and well broken up into suitable sections. I only saw a brief documentary on this project and I thought it would be interesting to find out more, it's not that technical but it does have some good detail and excellent pictures/photos in colour.

This review is from: Black Arrow Rocket: A History of a Satellite Launch Vehicle and Its Engines (Paperback)
A short but concise history of the 'Black Arrow' - Britains Satellite Launch Vehecle. The book isn't long but is packed with all the pertinent detail & decent illustrations outlining what was done and how it was done. Overall, a good reference book but a longer filled out version is begging to be written!

Bought for a friend studying this. The price reflected that it seemed to be an old museum publication. Niceley presented, good quality, colour pics.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read for those interested in rockets, 16 Dec 2012

This review is from: Black Arrow Rocket: A History of a Satellite Launch Vehicle and Its Engines (Paperback)
It's only a small book but as there is very little information about the British rocket programme in general circulation it's a goldmine of interesting facts.

The history of the Black Arrow engine development, which stretches back to pre-war Germany, is a fascinating and rarely told story. The political reasons for the development of this small satellite launcher and its subsequent abandonment are well described without being boring.

It's a short but great read for those interested in this type of technology.
