On page nine it says to the effect that the Bal Hareth have no supreme Sheikh and cannot agree among themselves to elect one. So, not much has changed since 1948 - which is in some ways very re-assuring and in others very sad. The British policy of bombing villages to pressure tribes into submission also has a current parallel in the government's actions with the Hothi seperatists. Sure we have tar roads and telephones, but the ethos, the basic structures are the same. Elegantly written and very easy to read, it provides great depth to that specific corner of today's Yemen.
