5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 15 Nov 2011
This review is from: The Transition Companion: Making Your Community More Resilient in Uncertain Times (Transition Guides) (Paperback)
Just like The Transition Handbook and The Transition Timeline, this book is essential reading for anyone who wants to make the journey from where we are now to where we need - actually, want - to go next. It perfectly encapsulates the spirit of what is now an extraordinary worldwide movement, showing the change to be something beautiful and inspiring and not the terrible sacrifice that it can often be perceived as by a fundamentally unhappy society that really ought to be ready to sacrifice it's unhappiness.

It's realistic, its based on over three years experience meaning its advice is more accurate, meaningful and useful than the excellent handbook, and as always from Rob it's incredibly well-written. It's inspiring, very practical and like all good permaculture teachers, Rob makes no pretence to having all the answers. But he has many of the right questions. The answers have to some degree be localised.

I just want to say thanks to all involved in the publication of this, your work is a vital service to our world.

This is a great explanation of the Transition movement, writen by Bob Hopkins himself, so directly from the horses mouth so to speak. If you want to understand more about the movement and the changes we need to make, this is a great read!

Only read a bit so far but bought it for background awareness and it does the job nicely.

Overpackaged, as always, from Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real feast, 8 July 2013

Designed as a pick and mix of ingredients, with several examples of how that could work in different ways, this book is an ideal companion for any community-led group aiming to combat climate change, peak oil, and local economic uncertainty. I would recommend reading the whole thing from cover to cover no matter how excited and eager you are to get started with your Transition Initiative, it's a wonderful overview. It doesn't get bogged down with lots of detail and it isn't designed to be used as a blueprint for success, it takes a much wiser position than that. The Transition Companion leaves the door wide open for your unique movement to grow organically. It's the framework, not the runner beans! More detailed analysis, research, tips and trials can be found online and in other transition publications by the people within the transition initiatives who have used this structure to launch projects of their own, for example, creating a local currency. But instead, this book will help to give our Transition movement shape and a much richer setting.

5.0 out of 5 stars A rich source of ideas, 19 Nov 2011
This review is from: The Transition Companion: Making Your Community More Resilient in Uncertain Times (Transition Guides) (Paperback)
This book is well-named, it is a very effective companion both for those working within a community, or anyone wanting to understand what is happening across the Transition movement and why. I'm finding it can be used in a variety of ways, as a reference book to explore tried and tested ways of doing Transition, as a tool to dip in and out of for ideas on solving a specific problem, or as a fantastic source of ideas and positive inspiration.

The Transition Companion: Making Your Community More Resilient in Uncertain Times (Transition Guides)

"The Transition Companion" is the sequel to the bestselling "The Transition Handbook" (2008) and is based on the stories and experience of the people achieving Transition around the world. It describes 'Ingedients' and 'Tools for Transition' that are proving to be effective in rebuilding community resilience and developing local responses to the challenges of peak oil, climate change and economic instability.

This well written and beautifully illustrated book is a treasure trove of inspiring ideas and practical advice, and is strongly recommended reading for anyone who is interested in building more resilient and sustainable communities in an increasingly uncertain world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wondeful stories of how a community comes together, 30 Sep 2012

This review is from: The Transition Companion: Making Your Community More Resilient in Uncertain Times (Transition Guides) (Paperback)
I bought this book to find what transition groups across the world having been doing and to get inspiration from their ideas. The Transition Companion has this a a whole lot more. For anyone interested in the Tranisiton movement or just want to find out what community projects can be done, both successfully or not this is the book for you.

It can be read as a book from cover to cover or can be used more as reference book to dip in and out of. There are many fantastic ideas for community lead projects but also gives information on transition groups that are in your area. I don't want to spoil the read for anyone as you should be allowed to discover the information inside for yourself.

I highly recommend this book as a very interesting read for both transition and non-transition people alike.
