5.0 out of 5 stars A book of fab photos, 11 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Hebrideans (Hardcover)
This book is well worth a look at the whole lot of fab photos which are in this book. I would definately recommend especially to someone who has a connection to the Outer Hebrides.

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic of black and white photography, 28 Sep 2011
This review is from: The Hebrideans (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful book. The island lives it portrays are now largely part of history and the Hebrides today are more a part of the rest of the world. Tourism, modern communications and changing aspirations have changed things considerably. Gus Wylie captures some of what's been lost (and doubtless some of what many are happy to have left behind). All in all, the images in this book form a warm and affectionate portrait of the islanders. There's great subtlety, touches of humour, and sometimes poignancy too. From a more technical point of view, the photographer shows himself to be a real master of tone. His composing of images is consistently sure-handed too, and his ability to get his camera into people's lives is extraordinary. This book is a true classic.
