This review is from: Fighting Bradfords Northern Heroes Of World War One (Paperback)
As a former pupil of Queen Elizabeth Grammar School I always intrigued by the various memorials to these brothers at the school and in the local churches. Their stories of gallantry and courage are probably unequalled in any other family during the conflict. 2 V.C.'s, 2 M.C.'s and a D.S.O. are a remarkable record. Yet the stories are tinged with the sadness of lives cut short and one wonders what they could have achieved if all the brothers had survived the war. Roland was the youngest Brigadier General in the British army at the time of his premature death and might have been a great leader in World War 2.
