I purchased this book in the hope to develop my skills but if you are working on an addition of Maya that is after 6 leave this book well alone, You spend half your time looking for where the features have been relocated to.
The creators of Maya like to keep you on your toes and make pointless changes to the programme. Maya is fantastic for what it does but if you expect to just flick threw this book with the greatest of ease be prepared. I am constantly opening google to try and find an answer to where everything is moved too. If you have maya 6 it's well worth a bash because when the effects are created it's mind blowing but if you are working from a later edition then purchase books for that edition only. On the whole Maya itself is a fantastic programme but be prepared to be very very patient when learning, because jobs that should take 5 minutes end up taking an hour with this particular book. Disappointed

although you do require a version of maya unlimited, this book gives you everything you need to know about its features.
Covering the aspects of fluids, cloth, fur and hair which are generally identifed as the hardest and most difficult areas of study in a 3D Application.
Written specifically for Maya 6 Unlimited it will talk you through the aspects on using these features in your projects through a series of tutorials from simple to complex, giving you a broad understanding of the concepts used when applying these techniques.
This book is a great companion to ones education and can also be used as a reference book, its provides insightful information on the issues required and how to do it.
This book does however require you to have some intermediate knowledge of the application as well as lot of patience.
Its an official maya book, and there are few out there that covers how to create cloth, how to do hair and fur as well as advanced fluid effects. Definatly one worth buying!
