4.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Collection of little Heart-warming extras...
'A Continuation of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice' the title says... this statement probably immediately misleads readers like myself of what to expect. It suggested a sequel to the classic romance- a brand new love story.
If you start the book with this assumption, I can tell you, you may instantly feel deceived. For when I read the first two letters of the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
...I have been very disappointed. While I was expecting a story that told of the relationship between Elisabeth and Mr Darcy after their wedding, I met with a collection of letters full of empty pleasantry. Half of the book is comprised of Elisabeth's yearning for the company of her dear sister; her meetings with Austen's majors characters from her other novels (Emma,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing really happens!, 13 Mar 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Letters from Pemberley: the First Year (Paperback)
I found that Jane Dawkins had done very little other than describe Elizabeths meeting of Mr Darcy's friends, which was remarkably dull. By being written in letter format, there were none of the conversations and set pieces that make P&P the masterpiece it is. Most importantly there is no real description of Mr & Mrs Darcy's relationship, which is a terrible shame. Although I didn't like the story in "Pemberley" by Emma Tennant I found it a more enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Joy To Read, 16 Oct 1999

What a lovely story, and such delight to find it after so many bad to mediocre sequels. Jane Dawkins has a true talent for capturing Austen. Tres bien!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely excellent, 16 Nov 2000

This review is from: Letters from Pemberley: the First Year (Paperback)
Like all your other reviewers I just loved this book - very true indeed to Jane Austen's characters. I also wish that this could be filmed (with the main characters being acted by Colin Firth, Jennifer Erhle and the others of course!). I have written to Jane Dawkins congratulating her on her book and received such a charming reply.I almost found myself trying to 'match' some of characters with others from Jane Austen's other books! Well done Jane Dawkins .

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reading!, 25 Oct 1999

This review is from: Letters from Pemberley: the First Year (Paperback)
Shannon from Nashville, TN , October 22, 1999 Excellent reading from beginning to end. Enjoyed this book thoroughly. Excitement builds with every letter that Elizabeth writes to her sister. Jane Dawkins does a very good job continuing the story line of the Darcys and the Bingleys, as well as other characters from Pride and Prejudice. If anyone is yearning for more after reading P&P, Letters from Pememberly is the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book, 21 Mar 2000

This review is from: Letters from Pemberley: the First Year (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this sequel to Pride and Prejudice. Ms. Dawkins is very talented and the story read just as if our own Jane Austen had written it. I would love to see this made into an A&E sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful insight into the world of the new "Mrs Darcy", 17 Jan 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Letters from Pemberley: the First Year (Paperback)
I thought it to be impossible that anyone could carry on where Jane Austen left us with Lizzy and Darcy. This book does just that, as if she had written it herself, left it in a box only for someone to discover it years later and publish it. A must read for any Pride & Prejudice fanatic.
