This review is from: My Awakening: A Path to Racial Understanding (Hardcover)
It is rare, in this world of trivial writing for mass consumption, to come across a book that can truly be described as "life changing". This is particularly so in the world of politics, where case after case of sleazy deals, exposed by the media, has wearied the public into an uneasy acceptance that politicians are a necessary evil. Broken promises, lies and "spin" have callused us, and a feeling is pervasive that our elected representatives cannot possibly be quite as stupid as they appear. A vague feeling is fostered that high level conspiracy is in the air.
When I saw David Duke's book, "My Awakening", advertised these were some of the concepts that came to my mind. Here will be another politician setting himself up to "con" the people, I thought. There was, however, something about David Duke's rather colourful past, those parts that I knew about anyway, that awakened a spark of recognition in me. Maybe, just maybe, here might be a kindred spirit. A real seeker after Truth. I decided to part with my cash and buy his book. I was not disappointed.
From the title page, where he quotes George Orwell's maxim that, "In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act", he had me hooked. His enthusiasm and candour soon convinced me of his sincerity, and I found the book such a revelation that I had to force myself to put it down. David Duke made me aware of facts that previously, if someone had told me them in ordinary conversation, or they had come from another source, I would have dismissed as sheer mischief making. "My Awakening", however, is deeply researched and meticulously referenced. Every time I thought, "No ! That can't be", I discovered a numbered reference at the back of the book showing me exactly where that fact had been sourced from. The references were impeccable, ranging from government documents to the works of respected historians. Gradually and impressively David Duke made his case, and made it beyond argument.
Perhaps what I have said here makes "My Awakening" sound like a dry, academic tome. Far from it ! The author has the happy knack of covering all the relevant facts while retaining readability. I personally found it compelling reading. Not only that, but so instructive as to be that rarest of commodities, a genuinely life enhancing, and life changing, experience. If, like me, you have always felt vaguely that you are being manipulated in a conspiracy, but so subtly that you can't quite put your finger on where the conspiracy emanates from, then this book is for you. Read it and discover not only who is behind what you suspect, but also how the mechanics of the conspiracy work and the levels to which it reaches. Knowledge is power, and the knowledge that "My Awakening" gives you will arm you in resisting the manipulators. This is not fantasy conspiracy theory ! "My Awakening" introduces the reader to the real thing, and it is alarming and sometimes frightening stuff.
Described by the reluctant writer of the foreword, Glade Whitney, a highly respected academic, as a book with the potential to "change the very course of history", this book is to me the most important book of our times, and should be read by every independent minded thinking person.
If you only buy one book in the rest of your life, make it "My Awakening" by David Duke.

5.0 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air!, 10 Jun 2001

This review is from: My Awakening: A Path to Racial Understanding (Hardcover)
Well the final straw for me was the Cincinnati riots. I was, albeit reluctantly, persuaded to read Mr Dukes book by an energetic friend of mine. I say reluctantly because I was aware of Mr Duke's previous association with certain political persuasions and groups. Breath of fresh air springs to mind when I think of the writings presented in this book. So often political groups or individuals on both sides of the spectrum indulge in an orgy of slandering, hissing, spitting and downright obscene behaviour whenever race is mentioned, but here is book that tackles the most controversial subjects of our time, logically, calmly, evenly and always with vast references to sources of evidence. It also calls into question our supposedly unbiased and truthful media! It is evident by the writings in this book that the modern popular media are not playing ball when it comes to balanced reporting. I for one shall be relying on the Internet more and more, and doing my own investigations on news items, rather than believing the utter lies that the modern media dishes up as balanced news reporting!

5.0 out of 5 stars Authoritative, factual, concepts of why race matters., 15 Jan 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: My Awakening: A Path to Racial Understanding (Hardcover)
David Duke is a talented writer. He does not subscribe to media repression and government hypocrisy. In fact he urges those who can think for themselves an opportunity to do just that. This book is an enlightening view of race in the world today and historically. The author writes about his transformation as an average american, beleiving what the media dictated, to his racial awakening and opinions today. David Duke emphasizes how important race is, and how we should embrace our differences, not be manipulated into thinking we are all the same. He states that history, more than anything, is the true measure of a race. He uses doctors, scholars and historians, to relay this message of difference. This book does not proclaim or endorse hatred, only difference. Excellent reading with many documented facts and examples that make one think twice about the message they are getting from the media and government. Whether you love or hate David Duke, the reading is very thought provoking and will challenge your opinions on many levels.

On art paper, with some b/w photos and illustrations, 700 plus pages - this is literally a heavy book. My edition is 2008 printing; the previous was 2002. Published by 'Free Speech Press', it shows some signs of typical small press production - for example there are a few typos and spacing errors left by the word processing software. If anything this adds to the genuine feel of the book - it hasn't been combed through by innumerable editors. It has been translated into 'a number' of languages. Another book, Jewish Supremacism, 'has been translated into fourteen languages', more than one million in print.

The layout is good - it has an index, mostly proper names and book titles, and, following that, a list of about 1,000 endnote references. These are in sequence in the book, and I infer that the software used had automated numbering, since some of the chapters seem to have been enlarged to include events which happened after the first printing - such as 9/11. His references generally don't include the date of first publication, which can be irritating when considering books which include revelations - for example about the Russian 'Revolution' or events after the Second World War.

'My Awakening' is in four parts, the final two being the longest; they deal with:-

I: AN AMERICAN SON - his early life - including accounts of Louisiana landscape and ecology, and his studies, and influences on him as regards race - a black housekeeper and black mechanics, for example; and Carleton Putnam's 'Race and Reason'.

II: RACE AND REALITY - an account of his researches into race. Duke comes across as a serious and inquisitive student, much more so than most. This part of the book cannot be in historical sequence, as he quotes books published relatively late, for example by J Phillipe Rushton on two types of evolutionary strategy - high investment in children vs low investment and many of them - followed by Lothrop Stoddard's 'Rising Tide of Color'. The longest chapter, 11: Race and Society deals with the huge increase in black crime, black education and white flight - Washington being his main example. This sort of material of course is largely censored.

III: THE JEWISH QUESTION - long chapter, with a woman called Mattie Smith, talking to him when he was young, as the prime mover. Jews, Communism, post-World War 2 media and American politics, the roots of anti-semitism, Israel, 'a Holocaust enquiry', and Jewish Evolutionary strategy make a well-balanced commentary in I think a fairly natural sequence. This chapter has detailed references and verbatim quotations from books and newspapers. The 'evolutionary strategy' includes forcing the idea of race mixing on everyone (except Jews), minimising cruelty and atrocities (except for Jews), fraud and crime (except for Jews), among other things. The chapter is here to make sense of the otherwise inexplicable attitudes to immigration, pornography, miseducation and so on, in part II.

IV: THE FIGHT FOR THE TRUTH - is an account of world-wide influences on him and his subsequent activism. The other parts gave detailed evidence for the existence of race, and for differences between races; and for Jewish attitudes. This section is biographical. His father worked for Shell and took the young Duke around the world, where he took a Gibbonian interest in declines and falls - there's a moving account of a meeting in India. There are dramatic accounts of police and ADL corruption. He was elected in Louisiana from 1989-1993 and seems to have spent subsequent years as a publicist.

It's all convincing, and I recommend this book to anyone wanting to make sense of the world of the American south, American politics, and the roots of 'political correctness', and its immense dangers. Just a few notes:--
* Serious student: Duke made (and still makes?) a lot of effort to look up source material. Libraries both for and opposed to integration; the Soncino Talmud; comparisons of different editions of the Encyclopedia Britannica; photocopies of declassified reports on Russia after the coup by Jews; post-war revisionist writers; Freud; Martin Luther King as a fraud; Old Testament accounts of genocide; how the 'Ten commandments' aren't as represented by Christians; the New Testament's God saying the Jews are no longer 'chosen', Lincoln on separation of races. - Just a small sample of the material Duke conscientiously noted.
* Duke accepts the idea that Africa was an easy environment - women could forage and eat, there was no need for foresight as there were no cold winters. I doubt this is quite true. The heat allows plants to flourish easily, but it also allows parasites and insects to flourish - Guinea Worm, Tsetse fly, locusts, and so on. It could be argued that life was precarious and there was little point in trying to plan.
* He thinks the nuclear family was important for cold northern climates. I suspect most families have been extended - elderly, middle-aged, young, babies all together.
* Duke is pro-Islam, and gives accurate accounts of Israeli atrocities in the Middle East. But he doesn't seem to realise that Islam is largely derived from Judaism: - Islam has a tribal attitude, sacred texts in a fossilised language, dislike of kuffars/goyim which extend to massacres, promotion of sex with tiny girls, slavery, repression of women, and so on.
* On slavery, Duke doesn't mention the huge involvement of Islam in Africa, quite a serious omission. Incidentally he claims to have started the 'Nation of Islam' investigating Jews and the Americas slave trade.
* Duke realises 'Communism' was Jewish in the Soviet Union, and seems to assume this must have been true in China, Vietnam, and presumably Cuba. But in view of the suppression of the Jewish angle by most historians and commentators, it may well be true that Mao and the rest simply had no idea about the roots of 'Communism'. It's impossible to tell, because, if historians don't know the truth about the USSR, they won't ask related questions about other countries! My personal view is that Ho Chi Minh and others were more interested in independence than anything that could be called Marxist.
* Related to the latter, Duke doesn't seem aware that there can be genuine socialism. In the UK and Europe we're used to the idea that Keir Hardie, or [fill in name of favourite reformer] were left wing or 'Labour'. It's only later that the ideal was perverted by the USSR into mass murder.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true eye-opener, 28 Sep 2009
This review is from: My Awakening: A Path to Racial Understanding (Hardcover)
After reading this book you get a whole new perspective on race-relations, "affirmative action", the Israel-Palestine conflict and all your thoughts on race. It's title truly fits it's content, it will shake your beliefs and force you to reconsider what everything you thought on politics and who runs your country. It shines a bright spotlight on the misconceptions in the public debate on "anti-Semitism" and "racism".

You will also want to buy Jewish Supremacism.

Do not buy this book if you don't want to change your mind on many of the issues you thought you knew anything about, or if you don't want your beliefs to be rattled to the core.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Extraordinary Truthtelling Book, 11 July 2008
This review is from: My Awakening: A Path to Racial Understanding (Hardcover)
I am currently re-reading this amazing work. David Duke forensically researches important social, cultural, biological and historical data on the race issue as well as giving an insight into his personal political career. David had to do time in jail after he spoke out against the almost certain Israeli prior knowledge of the 9/11 attacks. They then went after him with trumped up charges, but guess what? He is still unafraid of his enemies unlimited power. An amazingly courageous person and talented writer, I urge you to purchase this book and to regularly visit his website davidduke.com regularly. This book could change your life, i know it helped to 'Awaken' me to the bias of the media on the burning issue of gender and race relations. This book is endlessly footnoted with quotes, many of whom are from his political opponents mouths which further enhances his credentials.
