5.0 out of 5 stars The Very Best There Is
This is THE ONLY book for serious guitar collectors. It gets better every year and is a great credit to the guys who compile it. There is no other anywhere as good as this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Vintage Guitar "Price Guide 2012" review, 6 Dec. 2011
This review is from: 2012 Official Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide (Paperback)
The "Official Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide 2012" is considered by many as a must have "annual bible" that gives the latest 'price' of individual vintage and collectible guitars, basses, amplifiers, accessories, etc. It aims to give reasonably accurate values for each instrument or amplifier given their relative rarity, desirablity and current market conditions. American (USA) brands - Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, Guild, Martin, PRS - are considered in most detail. Vintage and classic instruments made by these manufacturers are often the most desirable for collectors and thus there is justification for the emphasis so placed. In contrast, European, Japanese, Asian manufacturers are given lower consideration. This is a continuing failing of this series of the "Price Guide". It may lead to biassed or inaccurate values for some of the guitars. As an example, Gibson guitars get over 40 pages, while the German maker Hofner gets only two. Yamaha, a distinguished Japanese manufacturer, has only three. It is in the latter 'Non-USA' brands that some inaccuracies are to be found. For example, the value of Yamaha guitar SG1000 is given as higher than SG2000 and this is simply not credible. Even with some models of Fender guitars values appear too low or too high. For example, Fender 'Danny Gatton' Telecaster is valued between $1900 and $2300 - just try buying one less than $3000! However, overall the values given are a useful guide to what one might expect for the resale value of instruments in fine to mint condition. It's just that the research done on prices/ values could have been a little bit tighter on many models and especially those hailing from maunfacturers outside the USA.
