5.0 out of 5 stars A new knitters' bible, 12 May 2009

This review is from: Folk Knitting In Estonia: A Garland of Symbolism, Tradition and Technique (Paperback)
The patterns and explanations in this book are, as one would expect from Nancy Bush, excellent and inspiring. The book is a good mixture of actual patterns and the history of knitting in Estonia, with good photographs. the patterns are all for socks and gloves, which are lovely small projects on which to try out the various different techniques described. I have used it a lot and thoroughly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars good knitting book, 14 April 2011
This review is from: Folk Knitting In Estonia: A Garland of Symbolism, Tradition and Technique (Paperback)
This book has some really nice patterns, but the bit I found most useful was the techniques section, which has some interesting methods for decorative cast ons I hadn't seen before, and were very well explained.

Most interesting - not only because of the knitting but also because of the cultural insights. It's a real pleasure to 'dip into' this book. Lovely illustrations.

4.0 out of 5 stars FINE knitting, 21 Feb 2013

This review is from: Folk Knitting In Estonia: A Garland of Symbolism, Tradition and Technique (Paperback)
Just about all the patterns are worked on 2.25mm needles - this is something you need to be aware of, I think.

patterns are very traditional, as you would expect. Author has tried to provide authentic patterns, or stay within the Estonian knitting tradition.

Good opportunities to try new techniques are provided, with instruction.

Too many mitten patterns for my taste - I would convert these into glove patterns, or reduce their number, to replace them with more sock patterns - or how about a little hat or cap?

It really is just socks, mitts and gloves, nothing else.
