This excellent pictorial book is volume 3 of the Reef Set the previous ones being Reef Fish (1989) and Reef Creatures (1992).
Following a good introduction with maps and identification proceedures etc. 4 groups are described namely- hydrocorals, gorgonians, stoney corals and black corals. For each is given suborder and family, ommon and Latin name, size and depth found, polyp detail plus photograph, visual I.D.,abundance and distribution, habitat and behaviour and notes as required.
There is also a first class appendix on marine plants which covers flowing plants and brown, green and algae.
All you will ever need to know about Caribbean coral is in this book.

not much other choice out there so this will have to do! i find this difficult to navigate as the corals are arranged by shape rather than taxonomically. other than that the photos are nice, the layout nice and the book is sturdy

Just perfect for any scuba diver, snorkeler or marine biologist. Totally engrossing finding the different corals, sea rods or whips that you've seen.
