4.0 out of 5 stars Behind the scenes of a New Zealand team in turmoil, 16 Aug. 2001
This review is from: Lifting the Covers (Hardcover)
For the first time, read Glenn Turner's description of his turbulent time in charge of a New Zealand team with the "bad boys" reputation. He describes in detail his constant clashes with star all rounder Chris Cairns, his despair at dealing with the New Zealand cricket board and trying to install discipline on players such as Cairns and wicketkeeper Adam Parore, who he declares were impossible to deal with. The book certainly shows that all was not well behind the scenes and talks about players walking out on tours, disrupting team meetings, backstabbing each other, breaking curfews and having little respect for management hotel staff or indeed their fans.It is certainly an eye opener.Turner is obviously giving his version of events and no doubt the involved players will dispute some of what he says to be true but it is certainly a compelling read for cricket fans.
