Collis Raeburn, a young Australian opera star, is found dead in a locked hotel room and appears to have commited suicide. When his autopsy reveals that he was HIV positive hos family and professional associates bring all their considerable influence to bear to cover up the circumstances of his death. But they have not reckoned with Carol Ashton. Convinced that this deeply closested gay man has been murdered, she proves herself an inconveniant adversary when she opens a full-scale investigation.

Meanwhile, her lover Sybil is becoming more and more frustrated with their own closeted existence, a problem Carol would rather ignore than deal with. As her private life and the case hot up Carol is pursued by the lovely Madeline Shipley and threatened by a blackmailer - back off or the world will be told that she is a lesbian.

Faced with the exposure she has always feared, her intregrity and objectivity questioned as never before, Carol finds her professional and emotional life spinning out of control.

Another fine addition to the series
