5.0 out of 5 stars A down to earth description of frames from the 19th century, 3 Feb 2009

This review is from: Framing the Nineteenth Century: Picture Frames 1837-1935 (Hardcover)
As a woodworker I have always been interested in making picture frames.Nowadays with framing shops producing instant slim type frames the consruction methods of the classic 19th century have been a mystery to me.
I read this book fom cover to cover the day I recieved it ,it describes picture by picture the selection of frames to suit the picture, also it details the maker, construction methods and even shows in some cases the original reciepts.
It is a well concieved book,as you turn each page the layout shows the picture with frame on the right and the frame details on the left.
I feel John Payne is more tradesmanlike in his descriptions and comments which as a tradesman I could relate to.
A great book I hope he goes to the Louvre and writes the sequel.
I enjoyed John Payne's descriptions and coments.
