5.0 out of 5 stars Well laid out hat book for students and milliners., 12 Jun 2001

This review is from: Hats Made Easy (Milner Craft Series) (Paperback)
Interesting book that explains the basic production of flat pattern hats and then allows you to develop your own ideas and try something more experimental. Excellent diagrams and clear coloured plates to allow the reader to see the possibility of hats.

4.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable with detailed instructions, 24 Oct 2009
This review is from: Hats Made Easy (Milner Craft Series) (Paperback)
This book is limited in its approach in that it only covers sewn, soft fabric hats, but within those limits it is invaluable, containing detailed instructions and patterns for a wide variety of headgear.

It is suitable for complete beginners and contains useful information, and teaches useful techniques, which can be transferred to the making of hats in stiffer materials.

5.0 out of 5 stars very clear instructions for sewing hats, 24 April 2014
This review is from: Hats Made Easy (Milner Craft Series) (Paperback)
The hats in this books are all fabric hats to sew with a sewing machine.
Expensive equipment is not needed
I was very pleased with this book as it exactly what I was looking for.
The instructions in this book are excellent. Really easy to follow and full of good advise.
There are 12 chapters and 12 colour plates. The chapters cover The basic brim, The B=basic crown, The basic beret, The basic peak, Creating your own design, piece crowns, The 3 piece round crown, construction, Constructing piece crowns, peaks and berets, grading hats, Patterns and Modifying patterns.
If you are wanting to make fascinators, straw or other non sewn hats, learn about trimmings buy another book, But this is the best book I have seen on sewn hats.

4.0 out of 5 stars NICE BOOK FOR MY WORKSHOP STUDENTS, 5 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Hats Made Easy (Milner Craft Series) (Paperback)
Just received today and I have looked inside, its good for my students who are doing the sewing and at least that way they have a reference book to help them to understand the basics of hat construction. The style of hats in there are all for fabric based hats, but it is easily adaptable for those wanting to learn to hand sew sinamay instead. The instructions are clear and so are the diagrams, and the photography is also clear and attractive. It is a good book for those who take interest in hat making/millinery as it has a section which explains the basic elements required in a hat before you undertake to create your own designs-- so would recommend to learners and intermediate levels.
