...if your'e into this kind of thing, which I am. About the qualities of the material, historical connections and cultural strands as well as its emotional design implications. Lots of debate about the skills/craft/architectural/progressive/accessible aspects of the material and how it has been used and by whom. Much more than just a history of concrete. I've nearly finished reading it, but Forty so far hasn't mentioned the invention of concrete in it's earliest form by the Romans, which is odd. A book for everyone interested in it as a material, not just for the architects.

Every material in architecture should be treated with the depth and thoughtfulness that Forty gives to concrete. Stunning images and insightful chapters on the history, physical properties, aesthetic concerns and political positions attached to the material.
