1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, 13 July 2000

This review is from: Professional Visual Basic 6 XML (Programmer to Programmer) (Paperback)
The book lead me to believe that it would be introducing XML combined with VB development. Instead that first section of VB code in the book involves building a COM dll wrapper for the XML parser, and after 40 pages of typing I am still no clearer on how to utilise XML in my distributed app. A better introduction would have been to construct a simple XML document in a text editor, write some VB code that uses the XML document so that the reader can get an idea of the principles involved, and then worry about constructing wrapper DLLs for future use. This book should have been called "How to build a more robust XML parser in VB". All in all, a very disappointing introduction to a new and exciting subject.

2.0 out of 5 stars Badly executed design of info, 4 Jan. 2001

This book is packed with all the reference you need for the XML DOM, however the way its written really tossed my salad. The first oh, maybe 120 pages read as an apedix for XML (obviously designed that way so that you could know all the background before coding.) Problem is, by the time I got to the coding, I had damn near forgot a bulk of what was in the first 100 or so pages. If your learning style is like mine: Show practical (and useful) coding examples in small chunks at a time and build on your experience to understand the key concept then I wouldnt suggest this book...
