4.0 out of 5 stars An ironical and humorous view of the young north america, 18 Jan 2001

This review is from: American Notes (Hardcover)
This book contains all the deep insight that Dickens usually shows in his works. It is the story of a trip from Europe to the States and how the growing America was in the begining of his development. You may think: "what about it?, there are lots of stories of the States at that period". What makes this one really unique is the fact that it mas written by Charles Dickens. The result is the kind of book you will want to keep and read again, you will enjoy it just remembering your favourites parts. Even if it is not a masterpiece in the way other Dickens books are, it is a book you will enjoy from the begining to the end. It is not frecuent to find a book that combines fine humor, vivid descriptions and a deep knowledge of human reactions to new experiences and places. If, on top of that, it is written by one of the best writers then you have American Notes by Charles Dickens.
