This book is informative and good value. It is the 2010 issue and therefore bang up to date for this year's holiday. The prices were more up to date than those of our tour operator. One gripe is that it recommends that you book in advance for some of the Florence Museums to avoid the queues but there were no queues and we had to pay a hefty booking fee for booking in advance.

This is a very wordy book. Good if you want really in depth detail about the places you are visiting. However I don't think many people would want to take this out with them, because you would end up with your head being buried in a book instead of actually looking at the sights.
It's a good companion to go with something completely opposite, for example DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Florence & Tuscany where practically everything is pictures, which is much easier to take about with you but has far less detail.

The focus here is more on the history, each section tends to start with quite an in depth history before moving on to the specific sights. Unlike other books where the sections are clearly divided into sight A, sight B, it tends to be more of a textual ramble through the area, with the sights bolded, and then a list of opening hours etc. at the end. Again, interesting, but not a useful approach for everyone.

Overall, some interesting parts, but not exceptionally useful as a guide book, I've rounded up from 3.5 stars to 4

SIlly sniptes of totally useless information on Tuscany - the home of the renaissance and beautiful wines, vistas.
Poorly arranged No suggestions of how to structure your day. Promotes v expensive restaurants, has maps lacking any detail of value
Try finding a Cimubuet with this and then cone away disappointed.
Try finding where to go to see the archetypal Tuscan landscape and be disappointed..

This book includes all sorts of out of the way places, not just the popular tourist locations. It is extremely well written, funny, and has a lot of background information and history. This is the best book on Tuscany my fiance and I came across. (No, it doesn't have photos, but we wouldn't change a thing.)

Good guide to the places and what is there but a little biased on the history side for me,
I went to Tuscany to take photos so it was not quite so useful in pointing out the more photogenic views and hilltop villages but we still found them and referred to the guide quite a lot..
