2.0 out of 5 stars Rather thin all round., 28 Aug 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Antarctica (Cadogan Guides) (Paperback)
I picked up this book because it claimed on the cover to also have some information about the Falkland Islands and South Georgia. However, having left and sat down with a coffee, I discovered that the Falklands Islands consisted of around 2 or 3 pages with barely any information on what to see there or how to travel around. This makes it of little use for planning a trip, but does fill in a 5 minute gap waiting for the bus!
Looking through the rest of the book on Antarctica, it it had an older style 'educational' feel with distinct sections on 'wildlife' and 'explorers', rather than an integrated guide broken down by area. Overall the book was rather thin both in size and content, and would perhaps appeal more to children as educational interest. If you want to discover more about Antarctica both for your general interest and as a good travel guide, I'd highly recommend the Lonely Planet guide - it is considerably more substantial, better written and comprehensive in content.
