1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy if you want to know anything about the changing face of Celtic Park..., 22 Nov 2011
This review is from: The Dear Old Paradise: The Changing Face of Celtic Park (Hardcover)
The best thing I can say about this book is that it is hugely misleading.

I was really looking forward to seeing and reading about the development of Celtic Park, but there are no images which to document this at all. Just going onto Kerrydalestreet.co.uk would give you a better history of the stadium than this.

Not one colour illustration and none of any decent size. Come to think of it, no pictures that really pull back the curtain on the narrative. Certainly nothing that you will not have seen bigger and better many times before. There is nothing to really engage and document.

192 pages with massive line spacing. The author could have done this in 50 pages.

Avoid at all costs. Just glad I didn't pay the RRP of £16.99. I'd have felt even more robbed than I do now.

After reading this somewhat cobbled together effort it makes me wonder whether the author sees Celtic Football Clubs history as his own personnel cash cow to keep him warm in his advancing years.
If I was to be so bold as to give advice it would be unless you have something original to write about or even a different angle then why bother?
I found this book as interesting reading as a telephone directory. The only saving grace being that I was given the book as a gift and did not pay the rather hefty asking price.

Having attended celtic park since the late 60's, I really looked forward to reading this book.
Ever since a child I was mesmerised by the sights and sounds of the place. The colours of the tricolour floating defiantly on high, the songs
the massive carry-outs, the feeling upon climbing the stairs to the 'Ranger's end' and reaching the top and seeing the old ground revealed once again to my eyes, etc, etc, etc. I love the place, especially when it was mostly terracing,MAGIC!
The author does an ok job here. I learned a few things re the early days I hadn't read before,(or perhaps forgot?)
My feeling was that he should have produced a book half the size this time. I felt it was heavy going at times.
I hoped he could have mentioned a lot about things like needing a raft to get through the jungle some days! And could have mentioned the atmosphere
in the redeveloped Celtic end in the 80's when the terracing actually moved up and down dramatically with 25,000 tims jumping up and down belting out 'can you hear the Rangers sing?' Mental!
All in all, he does a no bad job on restricted material. I would recommend more readily if it was a bit cheaper. Tommy, Crieff
