This review is from: Confederate Catholics at War 1641-1649 (Studies in Irish History) (Hardcover)
Not my period, but I found this a wonderfully interesting book about an obscure area of history. It covered sufficient of the politics that I could follow the chronology. The author kept to his objective of assessing how well the war effort achieved or was capable of achieing the varying political goals of the Confederates.

The reviews of the logistics and resources that underpinned the military efforts were fascinating. Relatively limited and scattered sources were assembled to give a convincing idea of the problems and policies of the war effort. The more standard coverage of battles and sieges were also good, with a useful overview and an excellent focus on a couple of examples.

I would recommend to anybody with a passing interest in early modern European military history.
