I received my book & cards today - I was blown away - both are truly beautiful! There aren't really many decks around with Trees so beautifully executed - those that are there I think I have managed to find. The art work is done so lovingly - the cards really draw you in. I hope that Will Worthington does a lot more decks - I would sure be interested in buying them. I feel I should mention that the book itself has lovely artwork on each page too - a must for those who love working with decks & for collecters. I bought it on the other person's rating :-) - worth it!

of the green man mythos from John Matthews, backed with some stunning artwork from Will Worthington. The 25 cards are based on the Tree Alphabet, their meanings sensitively put across, though the tone is less scholarly than usual. This makes the cards easier to read, 'more approachable' as it were. The book and the card spreads therein are far more user friendly than some of the decks John Matthews produced previously, which makes the Green Man Oracle an ideal gift for both the beginner and more experienced folk. The depictions of the trees and the green men they contain are lovingly executed by Will Worthington, who obviously really loves his subject matter! I look forward to further collaborations between Matthews and Worthington, and can't recommend this deck highly enough for tree lovers everywhere!

This stunning twenty-five card oracle deck is a system of divination based on the Green Man. Each card depicts a different tree, and the name of each tree is in turn linked to a letter of the Ogham alphabet. Also, every card shows a Green Man image, some easily spotted, whilst others are more difficult to find, and all are viewed through a Gothic archway.

The cards are accompanied by a one-hundred-and-twenty-five page book, the quality of which matches the cards themselves. The edges of the pages bear a pencil-drawn image of the Green Man and the book gives information about the origins and importance of the Ogham alphabet and the sacredness of trees. The chapter on divination is titled 'Turning the Leaves, Receiving the Wisdom of the Woods', which is a very appropriate phrasing for this kind of deck.

Each card has a key phrase, e.g. ' Apple - vision lights the way ahead'; 'Aspen - where all are gathered, strength is strongest'; 'Spindle - destiny moves us to do great things'. The explanations of each card all give divinatory meanings and lore-of-the-tree, along with other sections as appropriate e.g. 'Faery Fruit', 'Goddesses of the Woods', 'Trees of resurrection' and 'The Many-Gifted God'.

This deck is absolutely beautiful, sumptuous even. In my opinion it is a misnomer to say the pictures are 'illustrations', rather, they are works of art. I can't recommend this deck highly enough. Work with it and you will soon be finding green men everywhere you go!

The Green Man Tree Oracle, by John Matthews & Will Worthington
Reviewed by Philip Shallcrass
OK, so this deck came out in 2003, but I just checked and it never got a review in TDV, it's still in print and it's very, very good. The 25 cards are, of course, based on the Ogham tree alphabet. As one has come to expect from Will Worthington, the artwork is absolutely gorgeous, richly textured and evocative, really capturing the essence of the trees. The accompanying book is written with great clarity and focuses on the practical use of the cards. A great deck for anyone finding it hard to get into Ogham divination by other means, or for anyone looking for a simple, beautiful divinatory tool. Recommended.
