5.0 out of 5 stars magical books, 14 Aug 2005
This review is from: The Magic Apostrophe (Paperback)
I found this book in the library and loved it but it took me ages to track it down as it was out of print. Then in my school library I found one of the sequels and so the hunt began for the other four...definitely worth reading if you love magic and suspense. Quite well written although Tanith never seems to mature over the years, however a must read for fiction lovers everywhere! Maybe not as good as Harry Potter though! :)

I remember when I saw this book in the library and the first thing that caught my eye about it was the fact that it was about a welsh witch, being welsh that appealed to me greatly. I really enjoyed this book because it has a mixture of humour and at times light drama. Tanith is a very interesting character because she starts off so childish and throughout the series of books becomes a bit more adult, although still immature at times. In this book Tanith turns 13 and finally finds out that she's a witch. She is invited into the circle of witches, which includes her mother and aunties. This opens up a new world of magic to her, she can make potions and spells, and pray to the moon goddess for guidance. Tanith struggles to gain control of her powers, and hates having to lie to her best friend T.A. about being a witch. To make matters worse, Astarte, a vile girl, joins their school and both girls end up competing for the lead in My Fair Lady. Tanith immediately dislikes Astarte, who is cruel to her, and when she starts seeing strange things in her scrying ball, she and her aunts release that something is wrong. Some dark witches are coming to the welsh village, and Tanith had better be ready, because it is her who has to protect her family and their magical secrets. It really is a good book, it doesn't have as many twists in the story or developments of the characters as other books, but the ideas put forth by Jenny Sullivan are very unique and interesting, and keep you entranced with enjoyment. I love this book and its sequels, and think it's worth a read for anyone who likes fantasies.

I love this book. It's one of the greatest books out and Jenny Sullivan is one of the greatest authors in the world as well as J.K.Rowling and Christopher Pike. My Mum and my Dad both love it too, it's a book for young and old alike.
