5.0 out of 5 stars The beginning of an epic
When Jack 'Church' Churchill and Ruth Gallagher simultaneously witness the murder of a government official at the hands of a monstrous, undefinable being, their lives are changed dramatically as they find themselves on the run from dark demons from the dawn of time, known as the Fomorii, with only a drifter named Tom to turn to for help. Revealed to be two of the fabled...

3.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read
Some nice ideas the idea that the world is ending through as hidden world built on myths and legends isn't unique to here but it's done pretty well. The characters are diverse and that keeps their interactions interesting. Some overly wordy sections but all in all plot, characters and interesting background/ideas pulling on the legends and myths make it a good book...

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm not baised! Really!, 1 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: World's End: Book One of the Age of Misrule (Mass Market Paperback)
Mark Chadbourne is a local lad made good, so I bought the book partly out of curiosity (and got it signed by the author in the process!). Now i'm by no means new to the fantasy genre, but this book is definitely something different, and well worth a look.
The 'Old World' of myths and legends has returned, very quickly sending modern day Britian into chaos. Leaving an oddball group the huge task of saving the world. Emotive, and packed with action even in the first couple of chapters, I can't wait for the next one!

1.0 out of 5 stars Implausible and unentertaining, 31 Jan 2012
This review is from: World's End: Book One of the Age of Misrule (Mass Market Paperback)
I absolutely adore SF/Fantasy, and and in this genre normally everything goes. However, after reading 200 pages of World's End, I put it away, since I considered it a waste of my time to finish the story to the end. A shame really, because the concept (return of the Celtic gods and mythical creatures) is quite appealing and original. Despite this, the author's horrible writing skills had as a consequence that the book bored and annoyed me at the same time. The main characters are onedimensional and stereotypical, the story line is predictable, and especially the grotesque dialogues grated on my nerves. Moreover, the author tries to be contemporary and hip by using "slang" and often referring to brand names. This results in the fact that the book is already outdated. I would advise no-one to buy this book!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very very poor, 5 Jan 2007
This review is from: World's End: Book One of the Age of Misrule (Mass Market Paperback)
Horrid stuff! Dreadful dialogue, contrived plot, painfully shallow characters and great gobs of saccharine mysticism. Keep well away. I read all three volumes, thinking, 'surely it must improve'. I suppose in some way it did: I found myself yelping with laughter and reciting some passages out loud in incredulity, so at least there's a somewhat ghastly entertainment bonus to repay any reading investment. On the other hand, there are plenty of better books out there to spend your time on.
