4.0 out of 5 stars The best general book about the Space Shuttle., 30 July 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Space Shuttle: History of the National Space Transportation System - The First 100 Missions (Hardcover)
Overall this is a good quality, superbly illustrated history of the Space Shuttle from conception until October 2000. A great deal of effort has been made to provide simple explanations of the design, operational and management aspects of the programme. It also provides an interesting perspective on the Space Shuttle's place in the long effort to place a high L/D reusable vehical into orbit, and in America's space programme.
However, it is marred by numerous small typographical errors, rather too short summaries of each individual flight and a couple of technical over-simplifications (such as the final glide test landing problem). That said, it is comfortably the best single book on the programme that I've seen and well worth the price.
