This is a well produced book to relish. It has a slightly off-putting subtitle: "The Ultimate Boozer's Who's Who", which really does not do it justice. It is full of stories: a rich tapestry of people, immortalized in Pub signs and names of pubs. It has been written in an informative, confident style and is well illustrated with numerous photographs. Obviously a lot of research has gone into this book. But who is it for? The pub quiz fanatic? The anorak sipping yet another pint of the real stuff? Or someone like myself who is retired who will find room for it in the glove compartment of the car. Or anyone visiting Britain who wants an alternative history showing how this island's past still runs rich through the back streets and the village lanes and shows how vital these establishments are to the very essence of what has made this island such an interesting place to live.

looks like an excellent book, well researched - what fun, but not properly read it as it is a gift for a friend. Great speedy, prompt delivery, thank you.
