This review is from: Mrs Merton's Friendship Book (Hardcover)
'Mrs Merton's Friendship Book' was published in 1995, following the instant success of the quite brilliant, tongue in cheek 'The Mrs Merton Show'.

To capitalise on Caroline Aherne's latest creation's popularity, she came up with a sort of diary format, covering Mrs Merton's year in 1996. In it, the acid-tongued chat show host writes her thoughts for each day. She shares stories about her eccentric friends, offers words of wisdom, poetry, and, like on the show, talks about pure miscellaneous nonsense.

If you enjoyed the series, you'll find this a reasonable funny book. I raised a few wry smiles, even laughed out loud on occasion, and would recommend it to other fans. It isn't something I could read in for one sitting, as I would find the format wearing after a while, so I'd say it was best to read small chunks of it over a few days, a week, or even an entry a day. It's a fun book, but `Mrs. Merton's World of Television' is better.
