Taking the book on the basis that it's reasonably well written and contains quite a lot of information which is new to me I award it three stars. I'm holding back on two more because of the writer's style and the apparent nationalist bias. Still I'd recommend the book because of the information it gives outlining the unionist outrages. I would have liked to have seen a much more balanced book however which detailed a little bit more about how Sinn Fein and the IRA went about their business. I suppose you can't please anyone and if Pearse Lawlor ever reads this he shouldn't infer from my comments that I regard him as a bigot but I would like to sit down and exp;lore certain facets of the book and the period with him.
