5.0 out of 5 stars Good Resource, 1 Feb 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: 450 Knitting Stitches: v. 2: Vol. 2 (The Harmony Guides) (Paperback)
At the beginning of all the Harmony Guides there is a very good and clear introductory page with all the techniques you need to know to create any of these stitch patterns. Whether or not you are a beginner or experienced.
There are plenty of stitch patterns to choose from edgings, lace, lace panels, cables, rib, knit and purl.
The photographs for each stitch pattern are in colour. There are no charts in this particular book, but there are written instructions, but you can easily convert them into charts if you wish using graph paper. The Harmony Guide 250 Creative Knitting Stitches does have Charts as well as written instructions.
These guides are wonderful just to browse through and knit a swatch or two, which I have done and there have been no errors, to see if it is suitable for a particular garment you would like to create.
As there are no garments to knit in this book I would also purchase The knitter's Handy book of sweater patterns and The Knitter's Handy Book of patterns both by Ann Budd to compliment these guides.
I have collected most of the books in the series and found them good value for money and an asset to my library.
Happy Knitting

5.0 out of 5 stars An Essential Stitch Guide for Knitters, 1 April 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: 450 Knitting Stitches: v. 2: Vol. 2 (The Harmony Guides) (Paperback)
I have an earlier edition of this volume. The advice, tips and abbreviations given are invaluable, particularly to beginners, though I believe even the expert knitter or 'would be' designer will find this book to be an excellent tool.
Using many of the stitches outlined in this book, I used up a quantitiy of different coloured and textured wools to make a striped sweater. Starting with a sleeve, working sideways on, across the body and down the other sleeve. I picked up stitches around the neck and sleeve ends, working ribbed cuffs.
The colourful and textured effect brought many compliments. Without this book I would have been at a loss as to know what stitch to use next.
It encourages experimentation and using different stitches can transform any old pattern to produce something new and different.

I had seen the book in a local yarn shop, but to buy brand new it would have been too expensive for me. However the slightly used one I did purchase was in excellent condition and arrived very promptly.
