5.0 out of 5 stars Harry's on Tape and Better than ever!, 19 Nov 2002
This review is from: The Harry Potter Quartet Collection: "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", "Harry Potter and the ... "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (Audio Cassette)
Many people kept telling me about Harry Potter, so for a long car journey i bought the set of tapes to listen to Stephen Fry recount this boarding school story. Within minutes I was mesmerised by the characterisation of the book via Fry's voice. I didn't want to leave the car! Rowling has the skill to keep the stories alive but the word for word reading of the book made the characters more real and the world of Hogwarts a vivid reality. Having now read all the books I conclude that the tape version is better and both the books and the films. The imagination is allowed to run wild through the lyrical voice and expression of Fry. I would reccommend all to buy this set to really live the stories, especially parents who want to keep the kids quiet with a talking book yet also enjoy the story themselves. Everyone knows the story, but in this format it's one you will be willing to listen to repeatedly and still be in love with Hogwarts and Harry! I can't wait for the next book and especially the audiotape to come out.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's well worth the 69 sickles and 2 knutts., 24 Feb 2003
This review is from: The Harry Potter Quartet Collection: "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", "Harry Potter and the ... "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (Audio Cassette)
While it is true that buying a small tin containing casette tapes worth a hundred pounds may seem ludicrous, it is a treat worth investing in. Flog some shares, sell your cat (or owl) or remortgage your house - do what you can to buy this wonderful collection.
Stephen Fry has a wonderful, colourful voice whose intonation is perfect for bringing out the snide side of Snape, the dependable Dumbledore and the hard-headedness of Harry. It makes for laughs and excitement on two levels: the story itself and the dialogue on the one hand; and Fry's vocal gymnastics on the other.
So, suck a sherbert lemon, drive your Ford Anglia and listen to the Potter saga from a new and highly stimulating dimension.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harry Potter Audio Tape Quartet, 28 Nov 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Harry Potter Quartet Collection: "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", "Harry Potter and the ... "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (Audio Cassette)
Naturally I love the audio tapes. These are some of my favorite books, read by Steven Frye -- he's the best! The stories are "spellbinding," funny and fascinating; worth hearing again and again. I especially love listening to them while driving in the car. It really takes my mind off the traffic.
Even better, this numbered limited edition comes stored in a practical, charming metal lunchbox with really nice graphics. It will be a treasured keepsake for years to come.
I couldn't resist and bought an extra set my mother, who also loves the Harry Potter series.
Both sets arrived on the projected date and in perfect condition.
Thanks, Amazon!

Having read all four harry potter books and thinking they were fantastic I bought this set of four books on tape for my daughter, I was not expecting them to be anything special when I bought them, but when we listened to them we were captivated... they really are fantastic.

They are brilliantly read by Steven Fry, who really does bring the books to life, he makes you want to keep listening.... I dont think they could have been read better, all four books are truly amazing.
The limited edition tin that comes with the set again is wonderful, its beautifully presented and a handy way of storing the books!

Oh bliss, Oh joy !!
If JK Rowling is a goddess, then Stephen Frye is a god.
The written word's of JKR have held me spellbound, ever since I bought the second book(because that was the one I read first). And I confess, screening it, for my godson.
The ever wonderful Stephen Frye was glorious as Jeeves,
but, the BBC broadcast on Christmas Day of SF reading Harry
Potter was utterly & totally brilliant.
Never mind comfort food, this is comfort listening;& worth
every penny.
Mortgage the rabbit if you have to.But,get the Stephen Frye
Harry Potter tapes.They're phenomenal!!!!
