4.0 out of 5 stars It fulfilled my expection
As I've for many years been interested in the 12 years between 1933 to 1945 that change Europe totaly are everything about German "wehrmacht" and what they did of interesting value.

2.0 out of 5 stars Perrett rehashs the same his same thesis
The strength and weakness of the Osprey series is that is uses different authors to cover each subject (sometimes more then one author/book to the same subject).

Without reservation Hillary Doyle and Steven Zaloga are probably the best on historic armour.

This review is from: German Armoured Cars and Reconnaissance Half Tracks, 1939-45 (Osprey New Vanguard) (Paperback)
The strength and weakness of the Osprey series is that is uses different authors to cover each subject (sometimes more then one author/book to the same subject).

Without reservation Hillary Doyle and Steven Zaloga are probably the best on historic armour.

Brian Perret's work on the other hand is rather fussy. Actual details are lacking and difficult to discover.

The worse point is that you can find most of the contents of this book in the chapters of Perret's "Knights of the Black Cross" and "History of Blitzkrieg" (even these two books cover the exact same material in different level of detail - so I blame the state of the content on the author not the subject). True it adds some photographs and a little more detail on the organisation, but the colour plates are rather sub-standard.

If you don't have the aforementioned books from Perret then the book makes a nice primer, but not great. If you do Have "Knights of the Black Cross" I would serious consider if this book is worth getting.
