There are more then 20 walks in this guide. They are divided into short, medium and long. We walked 3 of the medium walks and found the guide very useful.
The walks are well described and it would be very hard to lose your way, always a worry when you are not familiar with the area! There are also extracts of the Ordance survey maps for the area of the walk.

If we do more walks in other areas of England I wouldn't hesitate to buy other books in this series.

This book has a good number of walks between 4 and 7 miles. It is well illustrated by maps and easy to find extensions to make the walk longer. A really good starter book for any one walking in the Peak District.

Pathfinder guides have been around for a while and, despite the trend towards sat-navs, they have the edge as they don't need satellite links or batteries and they give clear and concise descriptions of the various routes.

My only, fairly minor, criticism - well, suggestion, actually - is that a 'ring-bound' version would allow the route to be permanently displayed instead of having to constantly search for the appropriate page.

Otherwise, the perfect partner for peak performance...

This book is a mix between a map and a information book about an the Peak District. The book cover is a sort of flexible plastic that would somewhat protect the book from rain and water. While the book is not pocket size it is small enough that it is easy to fit into a small backpack. Inside the walks are split down into time it takes to complete them which are colour coded. The easy walks are unto 2.5 hours while the longer ones go over the 4 hour mark. Each walk is also given a number than you can see on an area map, you can than find details about that route later on in the book. Each walk has a small OS map of the area some points of interest about the route, there are also GPS waypoints on the route. Most of the walks are a loop so its easy for you to return to your car after the walk is complete.

A very good guide book for the Peak District

A good selection of family friendly walks. It fits nicely in a map case when open and the maps included are clear and quite hard to get lost with. I still take the relevant OS map but never get them out. The essential summer book if you live near the peaks and need to get the family out of the house.

Once again this Pathfinder Guide contains some excellent walks with easy to follow directions. Because the books are popular the paths are well-trodden and clear.

Have done over half of walks in book- all varied and got me around wonderful scenery.

Only shame is weather at times- but not book's fault.

Only wish is that book was a bit more waterproof!

OS maps easy to use- especially if you sometimes forget your own maps.

Good guide to a number of walks around the Peak District, with nice clear descriptions and guides to the maps you will need to navigate if you want them. All the usual information including distance and difficulty (very subjective imo) to give a rough idea before you commit to getting lost in a beautiful part of the country!

Bought as a gift. It's smaller than I expected but it will fit easily in the walker's bag. Very in-depth and good quality information.

The cover makes it look like a council tourism leaflet which made me wary about giving it as a gift, but it has been a huge hit.
